Title: Growth and Characterization of lead-free piezoelectric and Dy1-xYxMnO3 single crystals
Abstract: Piezoelectric single crystals capable of converting electrical energy directly into mechanical energy and vice versa, provide key components in sensors, transducers and actuators. Sodium bismuth titanate, Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3 (NBT)-based solid solutions are considered to be an excellent candidate as lead-free piezoelectric materials, as they have strong room temperature ferroelectricity with high Curie temperature. In the first part of my talk, I will discuss growth and studies of 0.94Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3-0.06BaTiO3 and 0.80Na0.5Bi0.5TiO3–0.20K0.5Bi0.5TiO3 lead-free single crystals.
Multiferroics hold considerable promise for a wide range of multifunctional applications in sensors, actuators, multi-state logic system and also in a host of spintronic devices. In the second part of my talk, I will discuss growth and studies of DyMnO3, YMnO3 and Dy1-xYxMnO3 solid solutions.
