Title: Growth and Characterization of lead-free piezoelectric and Dy_1-xY_xMnO₃ single crystals
Abstract: Piezoelectric single crystals capable of converting electrical energy directly into mechanical energy and vice versa, provide key components in sensors, transducers and actuators. Sodium bismuth titanate, Na_0.5Bi_0.5TiO₃ (NBT)-based solid solutions are considered to be an excellent candidate as lead-free piezoelectric materials, as they have strong room temperature ferroelectricity with high Curie temperature. In the first part of my talk, I will discuss growth and studies of 0.94Na_0.5Bi_0.5TiO₃-0.06BaTiO₃ and 0.80Na_0.5Bi_0.5TiO₃–0.20K_0.5Bi_0.5TiO₃ lead-free single crystals.
Multiferroics hold considerable promise for a wide range of multifunctional applications in sensors, actuators, multi-state logic system and also in a host of spintronic devices. In the second part of my talk, I will discuss growth and studies of DyMnO₃, YMnO₃ and Dy_1-xYxMnO₃ solid solutions.
