Cross-sectional high-resolution transmission electron micrograph of furan-resin-derived carbon after thermal treatment of 3000 ℃.

1. Surface Graphitization of Furan-Resin Derived Carbon

We study microstructure of furan-resin-derived carbon which is important as a matrix material of c/c composites. The figure shows that the surface layer, which is about 20 nm thick, is graphite, but the inner part of the material has a cage-like structure.

2. State Analyses of Multiple-Phase Materials

We are studying state analyses of nano-areas in inorganic materials using transmission electron microscopy and other techniques.

3. Lattice Defects of Laser Irradiated Metals and Semiconductors.

We are studying laser induced lattice defects.
